Resurgent Medvedev Wins First Trophy in Nearly 30 Months
Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The Russian, a former number one, has endured a torrid season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the US Open.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - caused him falling of the elite rankings and eventually separating with former mentor Cervara.
Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over opponent Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's initial trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface since that period of that year.
The win also indicates he has achieved 21 victories at 21 distinct tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my both daughters at once, so to secure a championship is really nice," commented world number 14 Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.
Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent reactions on the playing surface had caused observers to question if his ability to compete at the highest level was concluded.
Yet the player has made changes in the past month, striving to come to the net and perform aggressively, supported by an enhanced serving game.
He recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the final five points to go ahead.
Both players exchanged service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first professional title, gained dominance to push for a third set.
He saved four early break points in a close deciding set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Suitably, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the net, with Moutet unable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
